It’s official! In the midst of all the bad news on the
TV and radio, it is refreshing to hear some good
news every now and then. Action Concrete just
won a highly coveted award presented by the
Concrete Foundations Association, CFA. This is
an organization comprised of other concrete contractors.
They have selected one of our recent
projects as the 2009 Basement of the Year. We
couldn’t be happier. It is always good to have
peers in your industry recognizing quality work.
The project is located in Clemson, SC at Clemson
University. It is a 4 story cast-in-place concrete
building called Rhodes Hall. The project consumed
over 1850 yards of concrete and 80 tons of rebar. It was a complicated
job that demanded very strict tolerances. This is why we used our Robotic Total Station for detailed surveying
and layout. We also used our mobile tower crane to assist with the heavy lifting. This crane was very important
because the site had very little lay-down space.
The floor slabs were also cast-in-place concrete with built in beams for structure. There were also two decorative
support beams built for a monumental staircase. These beams were cantilevered out 20 feet and were also
tapered and beveled. These proved difficult to form but they turned out beautiful.
